How to M check your bike

Before every ride we recommend you do some basic checks of your bike.  This is often called an M check because as you move around the bike from back to front it forms the shape of an M. Here is a short video showing you how to do one.

How To M Check Your Bike

  1. Check the rear wheel is secure.
  2. Check for loose spokes and check rear tyre wear and inflation
  3. Give the saddle a wobble and check it is tight and the seat post clamp is done up too
  4. Check the chain is clean and lubed.
  5. Check the pedals and cranks are tight and rotate freely
  6. Check the handlebars are tight and the brakes work front and rear
  7. Repeat the rear wheel check on the front

In summary, cyclists should conduct regular M-checks to prioritize safety, extend the lifespan of their bikes, optimize performance, and cultivate a sense of responsibility toward their equipment. Regular maintenance not only enhances the rider’s experience but also contributes to a safer and more sustainable cycling community.
